Adopting a cat

So you’ve decided to welcome a new furry family member - congratulations! The day your baby comes home will be one of the best and most memorable of your life, but having a cat is a commitment that will hopefully last far beyond the blissful beginning stages. Cats can live to be 20+ years old, and so I want to be sure that all of my adopters are fully aware and prepared for what’s to come.

My adoption process generally starts with my PetFinder. It is normally up-to-date with all of the kitties in my care who are ready to find their forever families.

“Adoption ready” means:
- Healthy and socialized
- Treated for (and free of) fleas and internal parasites
- Up to date on vaccines (1x rabies, 2-3x FVRCP)
- Tested for FIV/FeLV
- Spayed/neutered (at the appropriate age)

Once you’ve found a cat or cats you’re interested in, I ask that you please fill out my adoption application. I try my best to respond to all applicants within 2-3 business days. If your application is accepted, the next step is to set up a video call for me to learn more about you, and for you to learn more about the cat you’re applying for. At that stage, we may also do a home check, or a virtual walkthrough of your living space to make sure it is suitable for a cat, and to point out any potential hazards you may not have been aware of.

After the call, we sleep on it - I always ask for 24 hours before making a decision. If we both decide to move forward, you will receive an adoption agreement to sign as well as your new pet’s medical records. Then, we can arrange a day for your baby to come home!

I ask that all approved applicants arrange to pick up their cat(s) within 1 week. If you are not able to commit to that timeframe, please hold off on applying until you are available and ready.
